Corin Anderson
Programme Leader of BA (Hons) Applied Music

Background
I am the Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Applied Music degree at the UHI North, West and Hebides, an electronic music composer/producer, and an auditory-visual synaesthete. I recently completed my PhD in Music at Edinburgh Napier University, for which I researched the impact my auditory-visual synaesthesia has on my music composition processes and outputs. I write and produce music under the name CoriAnder and will shortly be releasing my new synaesthesia-inspired album, titled Photisms.
While working towards my PhD, I led Edinburgh Napier University’s Widening Participation music programme Creative Musicianship for four years and taught on the university’s BA Music programme and at their Music Tech Academy for high school pupils. I also previously worked as a Development Officer at LEAPS, where I co-ordinated their Transitions Course and supported young people from underrepresented backgrounds to access and participate in Higher Education.

Creative output/interests
I am interested in exploring how auditory-visual synaesthesia can influence and inform approaches to music composition. My practice-based PhD explored my own synaesthetically-driven music composition processes and I recently wrote a chapter for the Routledge book Innovation in Music: Adjusting Perspectives, titled ‘Translating Artworks into Music: Synaesthetic Reverse-engineering in Music Composition’.
