Meet our new Gaelic Officer: Jayne Macleod

"This new Gaelic Officer role provides a powerful opportunity to help make the Gaelic language stronger, by working within UHI, North West and Hebrides, and also with other Gaelic stakeholders."

"My name is Jayne Macleod and I’m from Ness, in the North of the Isle of Lewis. I feel very fortunate to have studied for a BA Gaelic Language & Culture at UHI and was able to do this course exclusively in Gaelic at Lews Castle College.

Having worked in the Gaelic Media Industry for 19 years, I am passionate about promoting the Gaelic language and culture and about encouraging people to speak Gaelic as much as possible in all situations and environments.

Coming from a very strong Gaelic speaking community; heritage, language and culture have always been to the fore and this is something I would like to ensure continues. This new Gaelic Officer role provides a powerful opportunity to help make the Gaelic language stronger, by working within UHI, North West and Hebridesand also with other Gaelic stakeholders.

Strengthening the language within the university gives a unique opportunity to promote and encourage its use in our communities across the Highlands and Islands. This is something I am very passionate about and I am looking forward to being a part of delivering the strategic priorities of the Gaelic Language Plan."
