PhD Researcher

Originally from Sheffield where he gained a BSc (Hons) in Countryside Recreation Management at Sheffield Hallam University, Steve has developed a deep passion for Outdoor Adventure and Travel, taking him around the Globe. Further studies enabled him to gain an MA in Innovation & Enterprise which led to a spell as a business owner and working for a Canadian bike manufacturer.

A passionate cyclist, numerous trips include cycling across North America, exploring trails in Alaska, New Zealand and Australia plus trekking and climbing extensively in Europe, Western Siberia and the fells and mountains of the UK. Having crossed deserts and continents, Steve finds the Arctic regions fascinating and peaceful travel locations, which after a visit to Sweden he wants to see more of.

As a keen environmentalist whose preferred mode of transport is a combination of bike and train, he sees Scotland and the beautiful Highlands as an ideal place to carry on exploring without the need to go through too many airports and to keep his carbon footprint as low as possible.

Having been working many years within both HE and FE throughout the North-West of England as an undergraduate tutor and employment engager, Steve also has experience within the voluntary sector, helping to deliver public sector contracts around community health & wellbeing.

He enjoys communicating with a varied audience, at home in both the classroom inspiring students and outdoors within the community. Further travels and work linked Steve with European funded research on a collaborative project between northwest partners and Baden Wurttemberg University Stuttgart, whilst employed at the University of Central Lancashire.

Happy to be outdoors or with a mountain view, Steve is delighted to become a graduate researcher within CRTR, focusing on e-biking in the context of sustainable recreation.
