Dr Mandy Haggith
Associate Researcher
Mandy Haggith is a writer and researcher who lives in Assynt. Her books include six poetry collections, a tree poetry anthology, five novels and two non-fiction books - most recently, The Lost Elms. Since 2018 she has worked at the University of the Highlands and Islands, and prior to this she spent two decades as an international forest researcher and activist, with a focus on the paper industry. She has been poet in residence at the Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh and at Inverewe Garden and for many years has run a tree poetry project, A-B-Craobh (A-B-Tree), inspired by the Gaelic tree alphabet.
Mandy has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, master’s degrees in Knowledge-Based Systems and Creative Writing, a Piano Performance diploma and a post-graduate diploma in Education. As the leader of an international poetic inquiry group, arts lead for the Community Land Academic Network and research fellow for the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), she is keen to collaborate with others interested in creative and transdisciplinary research methods to address wicked environmental issues on land and sea. www.mandyhaggith.net
