We offer free, confidential short-term crisis counselling.

What is crisis counselling?

Crisis counselling is short-term online therapy that provides immediate support after a traumatic event or period of distress. You can access this support if you are feeling overwhelmed after experiences such as domestic violence, bereavement, the breakdown of a relationship, losing a job, struggling with substance use, or having suicidal thoughts.

How does it work?

You can receive up to six online sessions. These focus on your immediate needs, help reduce stress, build coping skills, and support you in regaining a sense of control.

How can I access counselling?

  • Contact our Counselling Team: Email counselling.nwh@uhi.ac.uk or complete our short request form.
  • Student Support: A member of the team can help you arrange an appointment with a Student Counsellor. Please note that counselling is available online only.
  • External Counselling: Our support team can also help to connect you with external counselling options and additional local support.
  • UHI counselling: Online counselling is also available through UHI.

This service is completely confidential. All counsellors are registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland).

Please read our Privacy Notice for further information on how your data will be handled by the university counselling service.
