Second major golf success for UHI North, West and Hebrides in just over a month

A UHI North, West and Hebrides student has secured the institution’s second national golf success in just over a month, coming out on top in a major British university competition.

Jamie Reid, who is just six weeks into his BA (Hons) Professional Golf degree won the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Stirling International at Montrose Golf Links, competing against a high-level field including several Scottish International players.

The victory follows third-year UHI student Josh Beveridge’s win at the BUCS Golf Tour Autumn Trophy at Alyth Golf Club in September.

Jamie, from Arbroath and a member of Carnoustie Caledonia Golf Club, said: “I’m buzzing and so happy that my hard work is starting to show. UHI North, West and Hebrides has helped with my golf and in settling away from home. We’re all chasing the same goal of getting better at the sport.

“I plan on staying amateur while I’m at UHI and making it into the Scotland squad over the coming years is a long-term goal of mine.”

The 19-year-old also helped the UHI team to finish second in the team competition, finishing behind Stirling University on countback.

“To have two UHI students win major BUCS events in just over a month is a fantastic achievement and reflects the talent and commitment of our students.”

UHI North, West and Hebrides’ BA (Hons) Professional Golf degree, based near the world-renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club, combines golfing and management subjects with strong industry links, work placements, study trips and guest lectures from leading figures in the sport.

Full-time members of the teaching staff are PGA professionals, with students also benefitting from state-of-the-art indoor golf facilities on campus.
