NU-Horizon Training company to drive skills for region’s energy future
An ambitious new training company in Easter Ross has officially launched, helping to build the skilled workforce needed for the Highlands and Islands’ energy and industrial future.
NU-Horizon Training, a commercial company owned by UHI North, West and Hebrides, is based at the former Nigg Skills Academy, but will deliver training across the region going forward.
The company plans to broaden its training offer to meet emerging skills needs, working closely with employers to develop programmes that support both their future workforce requirements and the career aspirations of learners.
It will also provide opportunities for people to upskill and develop throughout their careers, helping the region build the skills needed to take advantage of significant opportunities in renewables and the wider energy transition.
Debbie Miller, Vice-Principal, UHI North, West and Hebrides said:
“The launch of NU-Horizon Training marks an exciting new chapter for skills development in the Highlands and Islands. We want employers to help shape what we do, ensuring our programmes give people the skills and confidence they need to build successful careers while giving businesses access to the workforce they need to grow.”
The launch event brought together partners from across education, industry, government and the local community, reflecting the collaborative approach at the heart of NU-Horizon Training.
Audrey MacIver, Inner Moray Firth area manager for Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), added:
"Developing the skills needed for the energy transition is vital if the Highlands and Islands is to realise the full economic benefits of the opportunities ahead.
"NU-Horizon Training builds on a strong foundation of engineering and fabrication skills at Nigg and will help ensure people and businesses across the region can access high-quality training aligned to industry needs.
