What is special about this course?
Introduction to Industry – This course will allow on the job training and college based learning to go hand in hand giving the candidate the best learning opportunity to progress their career in hospitality.
Qualification - This Modern Apprenticeship initiative offers people the chance to work towards achieving a diploma in Hospitality Team Member SCQF 5. The programme is a combination of work-based and college training and provides the dual benefit of students gaining a nationally recognised qualification while being paid as they work.
This Modern Apprenticeship consists of an SVQ, Core Skills and Enhancements.

Applicants should be in full time employment with employer’s support to undertake the course. A good understanding of the hospitality sector would be an advantage. Candidates undertaking these qualifications should be in positions which relate to the course to enable them to provide work-related evidence
Designed with employers, this hands-on programme lets you earn while you learn, building real experience in roles such as front of house, food and drink service, reception or housekeeping all while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. Your units will include:
- Customer service and guest experience
- Team working and communication
- Food and beverage service
- Maintaining standards in hospitality environments
- Core “meta-skills” such as problem solving, adaptability and professionalism
How will I study my course?

You will gain hands-on experience by learning primarily in the workplace, applying your skills in real-world settings. Your progress will be supported through our online learning platform, where you'll submit evidence of your achievements as part of your portfolio. Additionally, your local assessor will visit to conduct reviews and workplace observations, ensuring you stay on track.

Funding support is available through Skills Development Scotland to help cover the costs of training and assessing apprentices aged 16-19 across all Modern Apprenticeship frameworks. There may also be funding options for those aged 20-24 and 25+, depending on the specific framework and sector. Enhanced contributions are available for apprentices who are disabled or care-experienced, up to the age of 29.
As the training provider, UHI North, West and Hebrides receives this funding directly from SDS and manages the funding process.
What can I do on completion of my course?
This qualification can enhance career prospects within the sector. Candidates can also proceed on to study further qualifications in hospitality management.
