Our campuses and centres are located within historic towns and villages, set amongst the shorelines, mountains, and moors, with local staff working across our region to support our students and communities.   

Position: We are seeking a Work Based Assessor in Business to be based at our Stornoway/Thurso campus. 

Responsibilities:  

The post holder must have extensive industrial experience within Business and administration. Knowledge of training systems and working with apprentices would be an advantage. Planning, delivering, and recording fair and consistent assessment activities in line with SQA. Observing and evaluating candidates’ performance and work-based evidence to confirm national occupational competence.  Providing clear, constructive feedback to promote learner progress.  

Liaise effectively with employers, training providers, and candidates to coordinate assessment plans, monitor progress, and support achievement of qualifications. Assessors must uphold professional standards, engages in continuous professional development to maintain occupational and assessment competence. Additionally promoting equality, inclusion, and a positive learning experience and working environments for all learners. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:  

Applicants should hold an industry-related qualification at SCQF level 6 (SVQ level 3) or above. A recognised teaching or assessor qualification is required, or a willingness to work towards one. Candidates must also have substantial industry experience within the Business and Administration sector. 

A level of Gaelic ability would be advantageous to your application. 

Salary:  £32,156 per annum, pro rata  

Location:  Stornoway/Thurso campus 

Working Hours:  As and when required hours per candidate, Permanent  

Closing Date:  24th February 2026
