Facilities Technician

Position: We are seeking a Facilities Technician to be based at our Thurso campus. This post will be required to travel periodically to other sites to provide technical expertise and undertake packages of maintenance works.

Responsibilities:

The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices ensuring the provision of a safe working environment for staff, students and visitors to the College.

  • You will provide skilled technical maintenance across the College estate, applying recognised trade skills (e.g., joinery, plumbing, or similar) to undertake repairs, alterations and project works that require a higher level of technical competence than routine facilities tasks.
  • Working with a significant degree of autonomy, you will be required to diagnose faults, undertake complex repairs and support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across multiple campuses.
  • You will provide facility and maintenance support including ensuring the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards and that building systems operate at optimum efficiency.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: The suitable candidates must have demonstrable time-served practical experience in a recognised building trade (e.g., joinery, plumbing, electrical or similar). A relevant trade qualification (SVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) would be advantageous to your application.

A level of Gaelic ability would be advantageous to your application.
