Carpentry and Joinery SCQF 6 (Stornoway) and (Thurso) SVQ

What is special about this course?

This course is a 4-year modern apprenticeship which allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their area of work and expertise. Two and three year apprenticeships are available for mature students with construction experience. Candidates benefit from the combination of work-based training and college attendance to gain a nationally recognised qualification while being paid as they work.

Entry requirements

To access this award candidates must secure employment with a construction company where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence to complete the SVQ.

What can I do on completion of my course?

  • Successful completion of SVQ Carpentry and Joinery (Construction) at SCQF Level 6 will also allow you to progress to an Advanced Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, further developing your hand skills and more specialised and traditional craft skills.
  • Site Carpenters can have a varied career working on new builds, refurbishments or in specialist areas. After gaining work experience in the chosen occupational areas there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas that compliment your new skills.
