What is special about this course?

Explore the fascinating world of human behaviour with our National 5 Psychology course. Designed for those curious about the science of the mind, this course provides an accessible introduction to psychology. You'll gain insights into how people think, feel, and act, while developing critical thinking and analytical skills.

Three National 4 including one literary subject.

A range of five key topics are studied within three units:

  • Psychology : Individual Behaviour
  • Psychology : Social Behaviour
  • Psychology : Research

You will develop knowledge and understanding of topics such as sleep and dreams, personality, conformity, research and non verbal communication.

  • Optional tutorial 5pm - 5.45pm

You will learn online through timetabled classes delivered by a lecturer in a virtual classroom on Microsoft Teams. You'll use our virtual learning environment to access resources, complete assessments, and chat to your lecturer and classmates. You will have to attend one of our campuses or centres for SQA assessments.

For all Qualification Scotland courses, you must travel to one of the UHI North, West and Hebrides exam centres to complete prelim assessments, exams, and, for some subjects, portfolio work.

The exam centres are located in Fort William, Portree, Stornoway, Auchtertyre, Alness, and Thurso. You are responsible for all travel costs.

You may choose to sit your final exam at a different Qualification Scotland centre; however, you must arrange this yourself and cover any associated costs, including room hire and invigilation fees.

What can I do on completion of my course?

You may like to go on to study our Higher Psychology course or to consider gaining other qualifications in social studies, social sciences or related areas or to employment or further training.
