Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (Stornoway) City and Guilds

What is special about this course?

This 2-day course is designed for qualified electricians who want to gain the knowledge and practical skills to install electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment safely and in line with current industry standards.

Part 1 covers the theory and design principles behind EV charging installations, including statutory requirements, equipment types, and key considerations for domestic, commercial, and industrial settings.

Part 2 focuses on practical installation, including inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover of EV charging equipment.

After completing both parts, candidates will sit a multiple-choice exam to assess their understanding.

Successful completion of the course allows electricians to apply for OLEV (Office for Low Emission Vehicles) approval to install EV charging equipment across domestic, commercial, and industrial locations.

Entry requirements

Qualified Electrician with a current SELECT Trade card.

City and Guild Registration required for 2921-31 for which there are 2 elements: 601 eVolve and 301 written assessment

During the course, you'll:

  • Learn about the statutory and non-statutory requirements for EV charging equipment installation
  • Understand registration and approval requirements for installers
  • Explore different types of EV charging systems and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Develop the skills to design and plan safe and compliant installations
  • Gain hands-on experience installing EV charging equipment for domestic, commercial and industrial settings
  • Learn how to inspect, test, commission and hand over charging equipment to clients

What can I do on completion of my course?

This is a stand-alone qualification that meets the standards for this expanding area of technology. On successful completion of this course, electricians can apply for OLEV approval to install Electric Vehicle charging equipment for domestic, commercial and industrial locations.
