Gaelic Learner SCQF 7 (Online) Advanced Certificate

What is special about this course?

People with an interest in Gaelic Language and Culture who have already achieved or are predicted to achieve a A in Higher or have studied a equivalent course in the language or have extensive experience from another source, for example have completed B1/B2 level on SpeakGaelic or Duolingo. The assessment as part of the application will allow e-Sgoil teaching staff to best place you on the most appropriate course for your prior learning experience.

Entry requirements

  • Entry to course is by application, including a short assessment which should take up to 60 minutes. This will ensure you are offered a place on the most appropriate course. You will find a link to the application form at the bottom of each course page. The assessment as part of the application will allow e-Sgoil teaching staff to best place you on the most appropriate course for your prior learning experience

These courses, which run at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, aim to offer students the chance to gain a recognised qualification in Gaelic and to allow for progression from previous learning. Please note, current school pupils in a Scottish secondary school may find that the offer during the school day is more appropriate. 

Equipment

You must join the course using suitable and reliable IT. Ideally this will be a desktop or laptop computer with camera and headset (headphone with microphone). Phones are not suitable.

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time
  • Evening

Teaching involves live, interactive lessons using MS Teams and that attendance and active participation in these sessions is essential.

There is also a requirement for independent study and homework assignments which must be completed along with attendance at live sessions.

The live lesson times will vary across the year. August - December 2025: Thursday: 7:00pm - 8:30pm January - March 2026: Thursday: 7:00pm - 9pm

This course is delivered in partnership with e-Sgoil.

    • Study from anywhere including your local campus or centre

Start date

The course will run from w/b 25th August 2025 until w/b 23rd March 2026. There will be revision sessions in the month of April. SQA exams will take place in May 2026 with the speaking exam taking place in February/March 2026.
