What is special about this course?

This course seeks to provide the essential skills and expertise needed for pursuing a professional career in the construction industry as a technician. While classroom instruction is the primary mode of learning, students also acquire practical experience through site visits, field trips, and workshops.

This programme serves as an excellent foundation for various HNC Construction courses. If you're currently employed in the industry, evening classes are available for your convenience or you can opt for full-time enrolment. Furthermore, this course offers a pathway for individuals who have completed Construction Skills SCQF 5 or the PDA Carpentry and Joinery SCQF 6 to advance their careers.

Entry requirements

Progression from Construction Skills SCQF 5

School leavers

  • Three National 5 Qualifications in Mathematics, English, Science, or an Appropriate Technical Subject.
  • SQA Skills for Work National 5 Construction would be advantageous
  • Satisfactory Interview

Mature Returning Students

  • Three National 5 Qualifications (or equivalent), in Mathematics, English, Science, or an Appropriate Technical Subject.
  • Competent knowledge of the Industry detailed in CV of site experience.
  • Satisfactory Interview.
  • Anyone who fails to hold Maths at this level would be required to undertake National 5 maths prior to undertaking this qualification.

The interview process for all candidates to be scored against qualifications, experience and knowledge, score sheet to be created.
